A Birth
Center is the practice of Midwifery.
"The
practice of midwifery is different from the practice of
obstetrics. Midwifery care may be provided by any
qualified provider who practices a wellness and holistic
approach to pregnancy, birth, and women's health care.
Midwifery care focuses on the promotion of health and the
development of individual responsibility. Midwives take
time to listen to women . . . midwives believe that
childbearing is normal and that a woman and her family
should create the birth experience that will be
meaningful to them. Midwifery is a collaborative practice
that involves midwives . . . nurses . . . obstetricians .
. . pediatricians and other specialists as needed.
Midwifery honors and respects the wisdom and dignity of
all women."

Birth
works, we all know, and if supported through this natural
process, we can bear witness to all the magic that a new
life brings to our families.
Women
forever know what their bodies can do and know what they
need to birth their own babies ... it is my goal to support
you as your birth story unfolds, ... as gently and
respectfully as is needed for an optimal birth experience. I
have been serving our communities with out of hospital
midwifery services for over 20 years, first becoming a
Certified Professional Midwife in 1993 after I finished my
direct-apprenticeship training, and becoming a licensed
midwife in the state of Wisconsin in 2006. I have guided
over 900 babies and am now serving some second generation
families.

The
process of human childbirth is a normal physiological
process perfectly designed by nature to bring babies into
the world. It is an instinctive, primal experience that has
it's own rhythm and pace which should be respected and
honored, and works best when interfered with as little as
possible. Women should be encouraged to be active
participants in decision-making and self-care.
Women
who are informed, supported and encouraged to follow
their own instincts can be active givers of birth rather
than passive receivers of birth technology. When
childbirth is experienced in this way, it has the
potential to be a transformative event; women who take
responsibility for their births and give birth to their
babies under their own
power, emerge from the experience empowered, with a new
sense of their own capabilities. This transformation
benefits not only that mother and her children, but the
entire family unit, the community, the culture at large,
and ultimately the world, as it encourages peaceful,
loving, responsible relationships. As we birth, so we
live.
To
assist women to realize this potential, I offer my
service as a Certified Professional Midwife. I offer
holistic, woman-based care fore pregnancy, labor,
delivery and the postpartum period for families desiring
to birth at home. I also offer the water labor/water
birth option to my clients, and provide a portable birth
tub for this purpose.
I
have had the honor and privilege of supporting and
guiding women through the process of childbirth since
1992. To date, I have attended over 370 births. I live in
Kewaskum, just north of West Bend, and will travel about
one hour in any direction to serve birthing families.
Prenatal visits, which last about an hour, occur either
in my home or iin my office at the Birth Center. Costs of
midwifery care are based on a flexible fee scale.

I am a Certified
Professional Midwife through the North American Registry
of Midwives. I received my training by apprenticing with
experienced midwives. I recently lived on Maui and
attended home births with a longtime traditional midwife.
I also worked in a clinical setting at a birth center in
El Paso, Texas.
Birth is a highly
evolved, natural process that most often requires only
watchful attention and support to have a healthy mom and
baby. I teach families about their birth choices and hope
to see women empowered by giving birth. Through this
experience, mothers will have the energy and resources
needed to nourish their young in a whole and healthy
way.
I am also a Certified
Infant Massage Instructor. Touch is the first language
that we understand as infants Babies are sensitive and
conscious beings I am committed to nurturing the primal
connection that we expect as infants. I am joyful
watching families bond in such a way that their babies
are heard with an open heart. I also feel that mothers
need this same type of nurturing as they are constantly
giving of themselves to their children.
I am currently being
trained in Jin Shin Tara, which employs a gentle touch on
points along meridian pathways to reorganize the nervous
system, allowing it to find balance and release. Our
world needs more people feeling connected and at peace.
Birth is a perfect place to begin.
