A Birth
Center is the practice of MIDWIFERY CARE.
"The
practice of midwifery is different from the practice of
obstetrics. Midwifery care may be provided by any
qualified provider who practices a wellness and holistic
approach to pregnancy, birth, and women's health care.
Midwifery care focuses on the promotion of health and the
development of individual responsibility. Midwives take
time to listen to women . . . midwives believe that
childbearing is normal and that a woman and her family
should create the birth experience that will be
meaningful to them. Midwifery is a collaborative practice
that involves midwives . . . nurses . . . obstetricians .
. . pediatricians and other specialists as needed.
Midwifery honors and respects the wisdom and dignity of
all women."

I am a Certified
Professional Midwife through the North American Registry
of Midwives. I received my training by apprenticing with
experienced midwives. I recently lived on Maui and
attended home births with a longtime traditional midwife.
I also worked in a clinical setting at a birth center in
El Paso, Texas.
Birth is a highly
evolved, natural process that most often requires only
watchful attention and support to have a healthy mom and
baby. I teach families about their birth choices and hope
to see women empowered by giving birth. Through this
experience, mothers will have the energy and resources
needed to nourish their young in a whole and healthy
way.
I am also a Certified
Infant Massage Instructor. Touch is the first language
that we understand as infants Babies are sensitive and
conscious beings I am committed to nurturing the primal
connection that we expect as infants. I am joyful
watching families bond in such a way that their babies
are heard with an open heart. I also feel that mothers
need this same type of nurturing as they are constantly
giving of themselves to their children.
I am currently being
trained in Jin Shin Tara, which employs a gentle touch on
points along meridian pathways to reorganize the nervous
system, allowing it to find balance and release. Our
world needs more people feeling connected and at peace.
Birth is a perfect place to begin.

It has been an amazing couple of years as I navigated the path to becoming a CPM. Though, the letters behind my name have changed, my belief that birth is a natural, normal and healthy life event, is stronger than ever!
I firmly believe that birth is a family centered event and birthing at home allows families to bond in quiet and delight. I continue to be profoundly aware of the power of women, the transformations that birth brings to families and that births are, unquestionably, the most intimate yet empowering moments in life.
My goals also remain the same.
- I seek to care for and support expectant families that choose to birth outside of the hospital setting. I strive to provide exceptional skilled prenatal care with patience, warmth and respect. Moms, you will be treated like a queen!
- I want to strengthen confidence in women with their ability to birth, breastfeed and nurture their babies.
- I will work to ensure that women continue to have choices regarding their births.

"Ali provided me with exceptional care during and after my two pregnancies. I have never felt more cared for by a medical professional than I have during my experiences with Ali. She is gentle, attentive, affirming and thorough. She goes above and beyond-before she started her home birth practice, she made a home visit to me on a Sunday evening when I was suffering with mastitis. And she did it joyfully! I feel so privileged that she attended the birth of my second child. She allowed me to follow my instincts and gave me the space I needed to just listen to my body and my baby. She was an attentive guardian, there if I needed her, encouraging me to do what my body was designed to do. I had a beautiful birth experience and would recommend Ali's care without any reservations." Shelly Roder

In 1986 I began attending hospital births as an advocate for natural birth. Shortly thereafter I was invited to attend a few home births to see if it was where I really wanted to be using my skills. I apprenticed with a midwife in this area, and we worked together for 18 years.
Today I am a Certified Professional Midwife, and a Wisconsin Licensed Midwife, and this past October marks the 20th year that I have been attending out of hospital births. I have been married for 25+ years and have 4 children, 3 born at home. I live in South Central/South Eastern Wisconsin and will travel within reason.
I believe in the creator who designed women to conceive, carry and deliver babies, and I believe in women and the strength they have within to labor and deliver their babies. I am here to serve these women and their families. Help educate them as needed, guide them in the pregnancy, and guard the natural process of labor and delivery.

Birth
works, we all know, and if supported through this natural
process, we can bear witness to all the magic that a new
life brings to our families.
Women
forever know what their bodies can do and know what they
need to birth their own babies ... it is my goal to support
you as your birth story unfolds, ... as gently and
respectfully as is needed for an optimal birth experience. I
have been serving our communities with out of hospital
midwifery services for over 20 years, first becoming a
Certified Professional Midwife in 1993 after I finished my
direct-apprenticeship training, and becoming a licensed
midwife in the state of Wisconsin in 2006. I have guided
over 900 babies and am now serving some second generation
families.

I believe that pregnancy and childbirth are an intimate family centered experience. Childbirth is a normal and natural event in a woman's life for which she has been uniquely designed by God. I am honored to serve a woman and her family during this time.

The
process of human childbirth is a normal physiological
process perfectly designed by nature to bring babies into
the world. It is an instinctive, primal experience that has
it's own rhythm and pace which should be respected and
honored, and works best when interfered with as little as
possible. Women should be encouraged to be active
participants in decision-making and self-care.
Women
who are informed, supported and encouraged to follow
their own instincts can be active givers of birth rather
than passive receivers of birth technology. When
childbirth is experienced in this way, it has the
potential to be a transformative event; women who take
responsibility for their births and give birth to their
babies under their own
power, emerge from the experience empowered, with a new
sense of their own capabilities. This transformation
benefits not only that mother and her children, but the
entire family unit, the community, the culture at large,
and ultimately the world, as it encourages peaceful,
loving, responsible relationships. As we birth, so we
live.
To
assist women to realize this potential, I offer my
service as a Certified Professional Midwife. I offer
holistic, woman-based care fore pregnancy, labor,
delivery and the postpartum period for families desiring
to birth at home. I also offer the water labor/water
birth option to my clients, and provide a portable birth
tub for this purpose.
I
have had the honor and privilege of supporting and
guiding women through the process of childbirth since
1992. To date, I have attended over 550 births. I live in
Kewaskum, just north of West Bend, and will travel about
one hour in any direction to serve birthing families.
Prenatal visits, which last about an hour, occur either
in my home or in my office at the Birth Center. Costs of
midwifery care are often covered by insurance. For those who are not covered by insurance, a flexible fee scale is available.
